Professor Raz has been with me since day 1 of my Jiu Jitsu journey, through injuries, weird questions, and competitions. He is dedicated to his students and will always be there to help those who want it. He emulates the hard work and focus that he expects in his students, and cultivates a culture of kindness and respect. A fantastic coach and attentive professor, he makes BJJ accessible and understandable for the newest white belts, and comprehensive and continually challenging for all the levels up. He focuses on the concepts and reasons behind and for each movement. My son Ayden has recently joined Gracie Barra and is loving the program. He comes home from each class and explains what he has learned each day.
The instructors are very respectful and encouraging. Their patience and calm guidance have made my son relaxed and ready to learn.
Recently they have sent each student home with a pink bracelet representing their anti bullying program. Each student was given 5 bracelets to give out to his friends. Ayden did this immediately the next morning and some of his friends have been wearing them ever since. The message on it is “Be a buddy not a bully” which I think resonates with us all.
Thank you Raz, Walt and Jason for making my sons introduction to your program a positive and enriching experience. We are looking forward to long relationship.

Do I need to know jiu-jitsu or Judo to study Adults (Ages 14+)?

No, you don’t. There are beginner classes available and many of the people who study Adults (Ages 14+) have no prior martial arts training.

Do I need any special equipment to study Brazilian Martial Arts?

Students typically wear a Gi (two-piece garment worn by martial artists.) It is also typical for some students may want to wear a mouth guard. It’s a good idea to have a supply of athletic tape, as well.

As a beginner, do I need to spar?

No. Beginner classes focus on teaching basic techniques and safety, and you can then work your way up to controlled sparring in class.

Can Adults (Ages 14+) help me defend myself?
